Katanning late model sedan star Kye Blight produced another dominant display at the Perth Motorplex, coasting to victory in round five of the Pro Dirt Series. Blight was part of an impressive field that contested the John Day Classic on Saturday night and he was in clinical touch, winning both his heat races and the final. He started the 30-lap feature race from pole position and was never seriously challenged, opening up a big margin in front early on. Despite a couple of late stoppages in the final, Blight continued to pull away from the rest of the field and went on to record a comfortable victory. Blight crossed the line 2.797 seconds ahead of Ken Macpherson while Jason Oldfield, Brent Vosbergen and Veronica McCann rounded out the top five. Adding to his dominant display, Blight, who is now based in Bunbury, recorded the fastest lap with a 17.391sec. circuit of a fast Motorplex track. Earlier in the night Blight stormed to victory over Kodee Brown in heat one and he backed that up by defeating David Nylander and McCann in heat three, winning by almost three seconds. Such was his dominance Blight led for 44 of a possible 46 laps across his three events. The Pro Dirt Series will now break before returning to action at the Motorplex for the Boxing Day event on December 26. The Wild West Showdown Series will commence on January 1 at Bunbury Speedway before taking in rounds at the Motorplex on January 2, then at Albany Speedway on January 6 and then followed by Motorplex on January 7.
