Katanning star Megan McKay helps Townsville Fire continue their quest for a finals berth

Katanning star Megan McKay continues to impress in her first season of the Women’s National Basketball League, playing a role in Townsville Fire’s finals quest. The Fire have six wins from their first nine games and sat in fourth place on the ladder heading into round four, which began on Tuesday night. McKay is averaging 7.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists game this season and she leads the competition in field-goal percentage with 65.8 per cent. The power forward was a standout player for the Fire against Bendigo Spirit in their third game of round two, as the Fire notched their third win of the season. McKay was outstanding with 14 rebounds to go with 11 points and six assists as her side won 91-81. She again dominated the Spirit in their round three clash, dropping 18 points, grabbing eight boards and dishing off two assist in the resounding 99-51 victory. In the Fire’s second win of the season that started round two, McKay pulled down seven rebounds to go with three points and two assists in the 81-78 victory against Sydney Uni Flames. McKay dropped six points and grabbed five rebounds in the Fire’s 89-101 loss to Southside Flyers. The Flyers again proved too strong for the Fire in round three, winning 94-70, as McKay hit seven points, pulled in three rebounds and gave out two assists. In the Fire’s 87-75 win over Melbourne Boomers, McKay again played her role hitting nine points and collected five rebounds. The Fire won their most recent clash on Sunday, 73-59 against the Flames, as McKay added two points, three rebounds and two assists. In their round four fixtures, the Fire face the Perth Lynx tomorrow and then on Sunday meet the UC Capitals.
