Katanning’s Kye Blight beats national champion, younger brother to win successive WA production sedan titles

Katanning-raised speedway star Kye Blight claimed back-to-back WA production sedan titles after a dominant display in Carnarvon on Sunday night. The talented driver was the reigning State champion and started the 40-lap title decider from pole position alongside current national champion Kyle Sayer. The race had three leaders and six lead changes but it was Blight that had the last laugh, retaining his crown and in doing so won his third WA production sedan title of his career. Hayden Thomas led early in the final and then Sayer had his turn in front, but on lap 14 it was Blight who regained the lead and never surrendered it from there. Blight continued to extend his margin in front from that point on as younger brother Jake Blight, who lives in Katanning, diced with Jorj Park for third position. It was a sensational performance from Kye Blight as he crossed the line 0.956sec. ahead of Sayer to claim successive titles. Jake Blight started from position 10 on the grid and powered through the field for a deserved third-place finish while Park rounded out the top four. Nuno Mendes, Aydan Trewern, Josh Fraser, Drew Ogle, Ben Norman and Kane McDiarmid rounded out the top 10. Kye Blight now sits behind only his dad Darren (four wins) and WA Hall of Fame member Ron Belfield (five) in the standings for WA production sedan titles won.
