Kojonup Agricultural Show set to go on in October

After a year like no other, the Kojonup community will come together to celebrate the region’s best produce at the 130th Kojonup Agricultural Show. Despite many other agricultural shows falling victim to the COVID-19 crisis, including in Albany, Esperance and Newdegate, the Kojonup Pastoral and Agricultural Society is forging ahead with plans to hold this year’s show on October 17. KPAS president Peta Zadow said the annual event would go on, as long as all social gathering restrictions were lifted in WA under Phase 5. Ms Zadow said the committee was working on a COVID-19 safety plan for the 2020 show. “If those restrictions are lifted there is no reason for us not to do the show,” she said. “We’ve all been treading water just waiting to see, so it’s quite exciting.” This year’s theme will salute the 1970s with cooking contests, exhibits and decorations. Ms Zadow said the show would help bring some normality back to the community. “I think the main point of the Kojonup Show is that it is a social event for the community and for families,” she said. “A point of difference is the opportunities for the kids to be entertained and involved. “Everyone can have a go, have fun and catch up with friends. It’s got a real country atmosphere to it.” With more than 1000 showgoers expected to pass through the gates, there will be plenty to enjoy including fireworks, equestrian events, sheep counting, dog trials and sheep shearing. Ms Zadow said she hoped to see a lot of the community enter their creations into the show exhibits with sections for all ages. “I’m hoping there’ll be good support for vegies because everybody has grown more vegies this year,” she said. “I’m also hoping there will be some good vegies to put in the show, to demonstrate what we can do here in Kojonup.”
