A crowd of about 400 people turned out to celebrate 100 years of the Kojonup Football Club on Saturday, July 22. The centenary celebrations were enjoyed by past and present members, players, coaches and families at the Kojonup Memorial Hall. The club’s celebrations were made even sweeter when the league side surged to a dominant 102-point win over the Tigers earlier in the afternoon. Those in attendance were treated to speeches from life members and coaches who have served the club throughout its history. Kojonup was established in 1923 as the Magpies before changing to the Cougars 36 years later in 1959. Ten custom jerseys that combined both of the club’s emblems were auctioned off, raising more than $20,000. Honour boards lined the hall highlighting the club’s successes which include 14 premierships from the four leagues they have represented. Patrons enjoyed drinks and catered food throughout the night before being entertained by a DJ.
