Krystal Williams follows her career dreams through country training

Proud Noongar woman Krystal Williams has found a way to follow her dreams of a career in the medical industry while still living in the region she loves. While living in the country can make it hard for people to find careers, the Tambellup woman has taken on a traineeship to overcome those barriers. She is working at the Katanning Health Service as a trainee administration clerk through Impact Services. Ms Williams said it had been a great way to equip herself to one day reach her goal to work in the field of medical imaging. “This traineeship has helped me overcome obstacles by giving me a step into a different field of work, especially when jobs are hard to find in rural areas such as here in the Great Southern,” she said. “I believe that working in this environment has really helped me to decide what career pathway I take. “Working at the hospital has given me confidence in knowing how to provide excellent customer service, has refined my computer skills, taught me how to file paperwork correctly, given me new skills with putting data and information into online data bases and overall great customer service skills.” Impact Services provides a tailored employment support service for Indigenous trainees to advance their skills in a safe and culturally appropriate manner. Impact Services spokesman Stuart Roberts said it was important for the Indigenous community and youth to have a purpose in the country towns. “This is so that they have a strong and prosperous employment future, while giving a sense of pride and equality within the community,” Mr Roberts said. “Impact Services are ensuring that all Indigenous people are able to seek and successfully maintain viable employment in their chosen field.”
