Merger brings hoop dreams back into the spotlight with creation of Katanning Basketball Association

Players will enter an exciting new era with the recently-formed Katanning Basketball Association to provide competitive leagues for juniors and seniors this year. Basketball enthusiasts of all ages will tie up their laces and take to the courts of Katanning Leisure Centre this summer to take part in a new competitive basketball league. The Katanning Junior Basketball Inc and Katanning International Basketball Association Inc have merged to create the new Katanning Basketball Association Inc. The merging of two existing basketball associations into one overseeing body will help bring a competitive basketball league back to the region. In the past year, pick-up-game basketball has been hosted on Tuesday nights at the Katanning Leisure Centre by Adam Pettigrove and a social league ran over two months earlier this year. However basketball players have been lacking a competitive league. The Katanning Basketball Association have set out to change this by announcing the creation of a junior and senior league to be played on Tuesday nights across summer. Teams are set to take to the courts for round 1 on October 19 with a 16-round season running to March followed by a two-week finals series that will determine the winners of each league. The Katanning Basketball Association has announced Lynley Keley as president for the new season, while Donna Woithe will be the vice-president and Tania Wolfe is the treasurer. The new association is encouraging any senior and junior players and families to join the league. More information can be found on their Facebook group.
