Police investigating burglary where 90-year-old Katanning man had his wallet stolen in struggle

Police are investigating a burglary in Katanning where it is alleged a frail 90-year-old man had his wallet stolen from his pocket in a brief struggle with intruders last week.

Police said about 4am on Wednesday, October 21, two offenders broke into the victim’s home, waking him up as they forced entry.

The victim confronted the offenders and after a brief struggle, had his wallet stolen from his pocket.

The man received minor injuries and was shaken up by the burglary.

Forensic officers combed the property last week.

Albany detectives are leading the police investigation.

Detective Sergeant Vaughan Mackay said police would like anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the vicinity of Charles Street in the early hours of October 21 to come forward.

“This matter is still under investigation,” Det. Sgt Mackay said. Forensics have been carried out. We haven’t charged anyone at this stage. We are still seeking information from anyone that can assist us.”
