Police investigating suspects allegedly involved in burglary on Katanning Telephone Exchange

A group of young Katanning residents are being investigated over an alleged burglary at the Katanning telephone exchange and Australia Post buildings earlier this month. Police say a group of four people unlawfully entered the Richardson Street premises about 3am on Saturday, June 19, then stole a TV and other items. The individuals were allegedly inside the facility for about 10 minutes. Katanning police called for infomation about the incident on social media, saying a group of people had been “up to no good”. Senior Sergeant Carlos Correia described the alleged burglary as a crime of opportunity. “The worrying aspect is that we believe there are kids involved, juveniles,” he said. “As parents we have a responsibility to look after kids and that their health and welfare is being looked after. “Having kids walking around the streets at 3am in the morning is not a situation where you are looking after your kids.” Sen. Sgt Correia said police had been able to identify and charge two of the suspects thanks to information from the community. “We would just like to promote the good value of community support,” he said. “When the community is involved with assisting police we get timely results with investigations.”
