Tambellup’s Penny Squibb will be hoping it will be a big year of representative hockey after being selected in the Perth Thundersticks squad for 2021 last Friday.

Squibb is currently in the 2021 Hockeyroos squad and is firmly in the frame to compete at this year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The Thundersticks is WA’s senior hockey franchise and they compete in the Sultana Bran Hockey One League, which starts on October 2 at Perth Hockey Stadium.

Squibb is among a squad of 36 players in the women’s squad, including some of her Hockeyroos teammates.

The 28-year-old has made 14 appearances for Australia and has scored two goals.

The squad announcement is the first phase of the process with selectors to perform monthly reviews and make player changes dependent on form in the local premier league competition.

Thundersticks women’s head coach Kate Starre is excited about the experi-ence and talent in her 2021 squad.

“We’ve chosen a really broad squad and given a bunch of players the opportunity to put their hands up to represent their State,” Starre said.
