Tarin Rock young gun Lucas Robinson earns School Sport Australia’s All-Australian honours after stellar show

Tarin Rock young gun Lucas Robinson has been selected in the School Sport Australia All-Australian football side after a dominant campaign at the State championships in July. The 15-year-old was named most valuable player for the WA 15s boys team after his influential carnival playing across half-back. He joined five fellow teammates with All-Australian honours as WA won four of the five fixtures to claim the silver medal. “I thought my final two games were the better of the five,” Robinson said. “My confidence was up, things fell my way and my teammates looked after me. “I wasn’t really expecting the selection, but it was a nice reward for the effort I have put in.” As a tall, intercept defender Robinson said he prided himself on his defensive capabilities, but aimed to add an offensive element to his repertoire. “I try and mould my game style around (West Coast Eagle’s defender) Jeremy McGovern,” he said. “But I do try to run off my player and get as much of the ball as I can in offence.” Robinson plays for South Fremantle Football Club’s future’s program and said it had been difficult to juggle training with school and home life. “It’s been pretty hard trying to get to training in Perth and sometimes I’ve had to get a taxi just so I can train,” he said. “I just have to show dedication and do the things the coaches ask, whether running around the block or keeping fit, so when I do go back to Perth, I’m still up to scratch.” With aspirations to play AFL, Robinson remains level-headed about the road ahead. “In future, I would love to play AFL but it is important to have something behind me in case it doesn’t work out,” he said. Robinson boards at Hale School in Perth and played for their 10A team this year. His emergence was rewarded when he was selected to debut for their Alcock Cup side in the season’s final round.
