Three teams from the Katanning Netball Association took part in the Woolworths Netball WA Great Southern Set & GO Netball Carnival in Kojonup on Sunday. Kojonup hosted the event on the newly redeveloped courts, showcasing the new asset to the Great Southern region. Netball WA Great Southern organised the carnival with Kojonup’s IGA donating fruit for competitors. Kojonup Netball Association president Nadine Milne helped Great Southern Regional membership co-ordinator Kelly Dominiak to run the event. Beloved Netball WA Great Southern development co-ordinator Gail Butterworth along with several amazing regional academy sport program athletes helped throughout the day. The day started with new drills and techniques being demonstrated to the young players with rounds of games taking place shortly afterwards. About 10 GO teams (born 2012-2013) and four Set teams (2014-2015) from different regions took part in the carnival. KNA’s Net & Set co-ordinator Tania Edwards organised three teams — two GO teams and one Set team — to take part. Teams were coached by Tara Punch, Claire Lopes and Megan Irvine with all these talented sides playing against other young rising athletes from Albany, Ongerup and Kojonup. Scores were not kept for the games with an emphasis being placed on participation and team encouragement. Awards were given at the end for pre-game drills and on court spirit. It was great to see these young super stars really soaking in each and every word from their coaches and regional academy sport program athletes.
