Toby Quartermaine stars with bat and ball in Wanderers’ big win over rivals Australs

Wanderers have recorded a commanding first-up Great Southern Cricket Association win as the all-round efforts of Toby Quartermaine helped them defeat rivals Australs in the opening round at Quartermaine Oval on Saturday.

Quartermaine made 55 and then snared three wickets in a man-of-the-match performance to guide his side to a comfortable 107-run win.

Batting first Wanderers set a strong total after a century first wicket partnership and then a disciplined bowling performance sealed the victory.

Quartermaine opened the batting alongside Callum Froby and the pair got their side off to a perfect start, combining for 111 runs before Quartermaine was caught.

His half century innings included eight fours and came from 88 balls but when he departed his side lost 4-10.

However a 25-run partnership from Elijah Quartermaine (15 runs) and Peter Robertson (18) helped steady the ship for Wanderers.

Tuhiway McRoberts and Robertson added 21 runs to help their side post 9-178 from their 45 overs.

David Potter claimed the impressive figures of 4-15 off nine overs, including four maidens, while Yaqzhan Benson snared 3-39.

In the run chase Australs lost regular wickets and were in all sorts of trouble at 7-43.

Benson and Alex Fiddler provided some late resistance with a 28-run stand, but Toby Quartermaine took the final two wickets to help dismiss Australs for 71 in the 30th over.

Toby Quartermaine snared 3-9 from 3.3 overs and was well supported by Elijah Quartermaine (2-14).
