Emu Point Bowling Club hosted its inaugural qualifying round of the Bowls Premier League Cup this month, which included a group of Newdegate bowlers.

Ten teams including Newdegate’s Pete Walker, Bridget Michell and Damon Maynard, hit the greens on June 12 for the qualifying round with two teams securing their place in the regional final.

Len Brown, Alan Spence and Ken Luff won all four of their games to advance to the next round while Helen McFarlane, Lynette Erickson and Terry Martin won three matches to also secure their place.

These teams now progress to the regional finals in a bid to qualify for State elimination finals.

Teams can progress from the local qualifiers up to the regional level and then on to the State and national finals.

The national finals will be held at Brisbane’s Club Pine Rivers on November 8-12.

There was another BPL cup qualifier in the region last Saturday held at Albany Bowling Club.

That round of competition qualified more local players as they attempt to ultimately reach the Australian grand final.
