UGSFL Round 6: Wagin taste victory for the first time this season after come-from-behind win over Narrogin

Wagin notched their first win of the Upper Great Football League season after coming from behind at quarter-time to beat Narrogin by 16 points at Narrogin on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs trailed at the end of the first term before recovering to hit the front in the second quarter and went on to score an impressive victory, 13.5 (83) to 10.7 (67). After a fast start from the Hawks, the Bulldogs shifted into gear for the remaining three quarters, outscoring their opposition nine goals to four on their way to their first win of 2022. The Bulldogs’ previous win was in August last year in a 13-point triumph against the Hawks in round 13. George Gibson dominated for the visitors with five goals, while Luke Moore also provided an avenue towards the big sticks with his three majors. Moore and Gibson were both in the best players, alongside Brodie Bates, Bohan Teakle, Hamish Jennings, George Gibson and Alex Mancini for the visitors. For the Hawks, Jordan Heil tried to revitalise his side with a three-goal effort while Perrin Quartermaine, Jack Walsh, Blair Forrest, Ryan Gray, Tom Kilpatrick and Max Chivell were all prominent. Kukerin/Dumbleyung made it back-to-back wins as they brushed aside Brookton-Pingelly by 19 points at Nenke Oval on Saturday. The Cougars trailed by five points at the first change but a six-goal second half helped them record a 12.12 (84) to 9.11 (65) win. Marshall Browne, Justin Joyce, Eric Botha, Byron Blevin, Mathew Blevin and Liam Park were terrific for the winners. Panthers players Joshua Hughes, Vaughan Baker, Damon Penny, Jack Dingle, Liam Free and Noah Bowen-Zoccoli were all gallant in defeat. The undefeated Wickepin thumped Boddington by 102 points in a dominant home ground performance in the other round six fixture. It was an encouraging first term from the Eagles with three goals and they trailed by seven points at quarter-time. But the Warriors took control from that point on, kicking 15 goals to one and finishing big winners 19.16 (130) to 4.4 (28). Matt Jukes converted plenty of chances on his way to a seven-goal haul, while Callum Garcia, Jack O’Sullivan, Kyle Barker, Ryan Melvin, Kyle Medcalf and Atem Deng were outstanding for the Warriors. Jarrod Cameron, Mitchell Brown, Sam Graham, Charlie Kelsall and Talan Mitchell all toiled hard for the visitors.
