Upper Great Southern Hockey Association clinch CBH Group Women’s Country Championships masters title

Upper Great Southern Hockey Association women’s secured a masters division one title on June 16 after seeing off rivals Bunbury and Districts 1-0 in a gritty decider. They did it the hard way after qualifying second in a hotly contested Pool A, before smashing Eastern Districts — the No.1 ranked side in Pool B — 4-0 in the semifinal. They were tied with Geraldton on four points after their three group-stage fixtures but qualified for the next round on a goals countback. The division 1 side fell at the final hurdle, going down to Bunbury and Districts in the grand final by the barest of margins. After finishing second in the division with two wins, a draw and a loss, UGSHA went down 1-0 in a rousing grand final stoush. Their only group-stage loss came at the hands of their grand final superiors, who handed them a 3-0 defeat in their opening match of the tournament. UGSHA’s division 4 team finished fourth after claiming two wins and two draws for their four matches over the weekend.
