Viv Camerer overcomes wild weather to be crowned GolfWA 2024 Regional Senior Champion at Katanning Golf Club

Bolgart Golf Club member Viv Camerer has kept ahead of the pack, and the weather, to take out the 2024 GolfWA Regional Senior Competition Stableford championship at the Katanning Country Club on May 2 and 3. The two-field comp is open to women aged 60-plus and after a wet and wild opener on Thursday, Camerer worked hard to break away from a tight group of 14 hopefuls to claim the cup - seven points clear on a two-round total of 81. The win marks the first time a Bolgart GC member has raised the Britiannia Cup and Camerer was proud to land the title. “I’m so thrilled to win this,” she said. “The course has been superb and it’s nice to have hit the ball straight. “I really had to concentrate throughout and I’m so, so pleased.” Northampton Golf Club’s Jennifer Poet shrugged off the rain to lead at the end of day one on 39. About 13 players, including Camerer, were within five points of Poet and on day two a competitive field closed in during the cold but dry conditions. On Friday, 23-handicapper Camerer found form on Katanning’s firm and bouncy fairways. A 46-point net turned day one’s deficit around and Camerer surged forward to take the win ahead of Houptoun Everett’s Jennifer Davidson (74 points) and Robyn Parsons (Dongara Golf Club) who beat off Barbara King (Pinjarra Golf Club) in a countback for third after they tied with 71 points each. Next year’s GolfWA Regional Seniors comp will be held at the Denmark Country Club on May 1-2.
