Steelers 1 have assumed early favouritism for the Eastern Goldfields Netball Association’s division one flag after they held off Sonix 1 by six goals last weekend in a battle of the competition’s top-two.

Sonix 1 went into the clash hoping to draw level with Steelers, but instead dropped two games off the pace following a 42-36 defeat.

It has been a big start to the season for Steelers, whose only loss through six games was in round one against Imperials 1.

Also last weekend, Rookies 1 easily beat Mana 1, 59-35.

That result has left Sonix 1, Imperials 1 and defending premiers Rookies 1 locked on three wins.

Round eight will be played on Friday night when Imperials 1 meet Sonix 1 and Rookies 1 oppose Steelers 1, at 6pm and 7.30pm, respectively.

Division 1:

Rookies 1 d Mana 1 59-35; Steelers 1 d Sonix 1 42-36.
