Iran war news: Trump says Iran can expect ‘complete destruction’ and ‘certain death’ in next wave of strikes
Donald Trump has issued a dire warning for Iran after they said surrender was a “dream” the US would “take to their graves”.
The US President and Iran’s leadership have been trading barbs via social media after another spate of fierce attacks in the Middle East, including a strike on Dubai’s international airport.
Mr Trump responded by saying the US would “hit [Iran] very hard” and added that there was serious consideration being given to “complete destruction and certain death” for “areas and groups of people” that had not been targeted so far.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said the US had committed a “blatant and desperate” crime after an attack on a freshwater desalination plant on Qeshm Island, a facility crucial for providing fresh drinking water into the Persian Gulf.
The facilities are protected under international law and Mr Araghchi said any thoughts of negotiations with the US had been “almost immediately killed” by US President Donald Trump.
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian issued an apology on Saturday for strikes on neighbouring countries, saying any attacks were caused by a miscommunication and would cease.
Despite the apology, the UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan addressed the nation stating they were now ‘at war’ after Dubai’s airport was shut down following the drone strikes.
One of the world’s busiest airports until a week ago, all operations had to be ceased while terminal’s were evacuated after the explosion.
“We are now in a time of war,” Mohamed told Abu Dhabi TV on Saturday.
“The UAE has thick skin and bitter flesh, we are not an easy prey.
“The UAE is attractive, the UAE is beautiful, a role model, but I tell them don’t be misled.
“I promise everyone we will emerge stronger than we were,” Mr Mohamed said.
The UAE, like the other Gulf states, has been under attack by Iran for a week, which has responded to US-Israeli military strikes with attacks on US military bases in the region.
The UAE has been attacked more frequently compared to the other Gulf countries.
According to their own reports, the country’s air defence has intercepted about 200 missiles, 1100 drones and several cruise missiles AAP reports..
President Trump also announced that US forces had destroyed 42 Iranian naval vessels in recent days and knocked out much of the country’s air power and telecommunications systems.
