Boddington Football Club player fined for exposing genitals at local pub, teammate to fight disorderly charge

Another Boddington Football Club player has faced court on an indecent exposure charge from an incident at the local pub last year. Lewis James Gillespie, 28, appeared in Narrogin Magistrates Court on March 10 charged with one count of indecent acts in public. Fellow Eagles player Jimi Hal Gillespie, 25, also faced court on the same day, on a charge of disorderly behaviour in Boddington the following day. Their appearance came after 2025 Eagles coach Rodney Evan Williams and player Jarrod Robert Salmeri were fined in February for similar offending. Lewis James Gillespie pleaded guilty to his sole charge and was sentenced. The court heard Lewis James Gillespie had attended the Boddington Hotel on September 6 alongside his football club teammates after a football event. About 10.30pm in the main bar area, he approached the pool table and climbed up onto the table before deliberately exposing his genitals to pub patrons and staff. The behaviour was carried out alongside a co-accused, another teammate. The incident was captured on CCTV. Magistrate Rosemarie Myers acknowledged that Lewis Gillespie had not acted alone and was the third club member to be faced with an indecent act charge from that date. Ms Myers said she understood that it was after a football event involving alcohol and things could get carried away, but she did not understand why they chose to expose their genitals to the public. She said aside from this incident, Lewis James Gillespie does “otherwise seem a responsible person” and pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity was taken into account for sentencing purposes. He was fined $1000 with $308 in costs. His lawyer Tabitha Raphael applied for a spent conviction on the basis of future employment. Ms Myers said she was conscious a criminal conviction could have an impact on his future opportunities and because of his young age she granted him a spent conviction. Jimi Hal Gillespie had his first hearing on March 10, charged with disorderly behaviour in public. The 25-year-old did not appear in court but was represented by his lawyer Ms Raphael who maintained her client’s endorsed not guilty plea entered on February 24. The alleged offending occurred on September 7 in Boddington. Jimi Hal Gillespie will appear for a trial allocation date on June 10.
