Public comment sought as five tiny homes planned for Narrogin

Five tiny homes could be coming to Narrogin before the end of the year with the first stages of a new tourism vision gaining support from the Shire of Narrogin council. Sitting on individual lots on Kilpatrick Road in Nomans Lake, the proposed tiny homes would come with facilities such as toilets, kitchens and air-conditioning. They are intended to be minimalistic, low-intensity and low-impact and would sit on existing farmland alongside mountain-bike trails. The tiny homes would be off-grid, with electricity coming from solar panels and batteries. One of them would be fully wheelchair accessible. The proposal comes from Heyscape Tiny Cabins, a WA company which already has tiny homes operating in the South West. It aims to combine the peace and quiet of camping with the comforts of home. Heyscape Tiny Cabins’ Tenealle Harper said the project would present a unique tourism opportunity for Narrogin. “It offers tourists a chance to experience locations they wouldn’t normally get to access, to really unplug and disconnect from the stresses of modern life,” she said. At the June council meeting last week, Shire of Narrogin councillors voted to advertise the proposal for public comment for 21 days to allow ratepayers to have their say before final approval was considered. An officer report to councillors said the proposal addressed part of the Shire’s tourism strategy, which encouraged catering to niche visitor interests and providing nature-based experiences. Ms Harper said if there were no major delays with the approvals process, Heyscape hoped to have construction under way soon. “We love working with private landowners...(and) offer additional income streams for them, as we pay them rent for the use of their land for our cabins. “We’re in an exciting period of growth at the moment, as we look to rebrand and expand to Narrogin to complement our location in Busselton. “We’re excited to be able to offer a tourism option for Narrogin that will bring a wide demographic of eco-conscious tourists to this amazing location.”
