Wagin Bowling Club claimed an emphatic victory in the Great Southern League ladies’ pennants competition that wrapped up last month. It was the first time Wagin had won the silverware since 2018-19. The 10-round season finished on February 23, with Wagin winning a thrilling last match against Kojonup Gold by one shot. Wagin finished at the top of the standings with nine wins and 33.5 points to be well clear of the second-placed Dumbleyung on five wins and 23 points. Moodiarrup were third with five wins and 21.5 points and the competing teams were rounded out by Kojonup Gold (three wins, 18 points), Kojonup Green (four wins, 18 points) and Katanning (zero wins, six points). Wagin had just enough players to fill two pennants teams of four ladies over the season, with games played on each Tuesday, when all teams travel to the same venue to compete. The winning Wagin team, captained by Karynne Robinson, included Bronwyn Hegarty, Ronnie Ball, Coral Davies, Jenny Ewen, Kerry Walker, Winnie Hicks, Fe Thompson and Leanne Cook. To promote the sport and gain more bowlers, Wagin holds a number of have-a-go days early in the season and is always on the lookout for more members.
