Wagin secure women’s flag in Upper Great Southern Hockey Association over Williams

A late goal from Taryn Trevenen guided Wagin to the 2020 Upper Great Southern Hockey Association women’s A-grade grand final over Williams on Saturday night.

Early on, Williams’ Fleur Ford found the back of the net in the first quarter to give Williams a 1-0 lead at quarter-time.

Both defences worked overtime in the second quarter to keep the ball out, with many good shots stopped.

At half-time, Williams still led by a solitary goal.

Wagin scored from an early penalty corner in the third quarter as Jessie Allington found the back of the net.

Entering an exciting fourth quarter locked together, there were close shots on goal and great defence from both teams.

Late in the last term a penalty corner was given to Wagin, with Trevenen taking the opportunity in her stride to convert and help her side go 2-1 up.

Williams tried to rally and score the equaliser but Wagin hung on to win the premiership.

Wagin’s Shahni Chiswell was awarded most valuable player.

In the women’s B-grade, Wickepin defeated All Blacks in golden-goal overtime by a single goal.
