A 13-year-old boy has been charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed a Sydney father on Friday night.
Police say a 36-year-old man was located with stab wounds to his torso after emergency services were called to a Mount Druitt property at approximately 9pm, following reports of an assault.
He received medical attention but died at the scene.
Police arrested a 13-year-old boy on Sunday evening, where he was charged with murder, breach of bail, and an “unrelated” robbery offence.
About 40 minutes later, another teenager was arrested.
The 16-year-old was charged with murder — accessory after the fact.
The victim had stopped in the area to talk to a group of young people who were family friends, according to police, and was concerned about how they were going to return home.
Police say the man went to withdraw money from an ATM for the group when the attack occurred, which NSW Police Superintendent Darrin Batchelor described as “senseless”.
“Another group of young people took offence to the conversation that male was having with those groups of people, and as a result of that, we now stand here today with that 36-year-old male now (allegedly) murdered,” Supt Batchelor said.
A GoFundMe has raised at least $8,900 for the victim’s family at time of publication.
Superintendent Brendan Gorman says about 12 people were in the area when the “horrendous” incident occurred.
“Part of the investigation will be to determine if it is random or if it was targeted prior to the incident,” Supt Gorman said.
The two teenagers were refused bail and are expected to appear in a children’s court on Monday.
Anyone with any information or footage is being urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
