NewsWire understands 12 people have been confirmed dead, including children and a police officer.

A man who survived the October 7 attacks in 2023 was injured in the shooting, speaking with 9NEWS with a bandage wrapped around his head.

“I got hit in the head, I’m bleeding,” he told 9NEWS.

He was at the Hannukah celebration with his family when “absolute chaos” broke out.

“This is a bloodbath,” he said.

“There’s gunfire everywhere, people ducking... We didn’t know what was happening.

“I saw blood gushing from me...I saw people fall to the ground.

“I survived October 7 ... we came here only two weeks ago, to work with the Jewish community to fight anti-Semitism.

“I never thought I would see this in Australia.”

‘Evil came to us today’

Eye-witness Vladimir told 7NEWS the alleged shooters were shooting “indiscriminately”.

“Whoever they could get. Whatever they can get. Old people, young people, brains blown out. Just like in the movie,” Vladimir told the program.

“Evil came to us today.”

He said he tried to help an injured security guard next to him who was shot in the shoulder, but as he went around he saw people “already dead”.

‘Blood pouring out of his head’

2GB reporter Will Bottom earlier told 9NEWS he saw someone with “blood pouring out of his head”, and that there were about a dozen people being treated by paramedics when he arrived.

“I saw another man with blood pouring out of his head,” Mr Bottom told 9NEWS.

“His entire face was just red from the blood.”

‘Bullets were flying’

Another witness recalled “bullets flying” as they hid.

“We were hiding behind the rock climbing board, and the bullets were flying all the time,” the witness told 7NEWS.

“The bullets went right past you. It was mayhem.”

Another told 9NEWS she was in a “total panic” and just ran during the shooting, saying “everybody was just like ... screaming around me”.

‘Running for their lives’

One witness said people were “running for their lives” as the shooting unfolded.

“We just saw everybody’s bags and towels left on the beach... There was about a line of 20 people behind the (lifeguard) buggy taking cover of where the shooter was,” Marley told the ABC.

“This was 10 minutes after the first shot and we could still hear it from the south end shots going off. And we were just saying like, ‘Is this really happening?’

“Restaurants were opening their doors and getting crammed with people and the hostels along Campbell Avenue. They were just opening their doors to everyone. The buses were jammed packed, people trying to squeeze in and just running for their lives. It was surreal. I just couldn’t believe it really.”

ECAJ staffer wounded

Co-Chief Executive Officer of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ) Alex Ryvchin told Sky News his media adviser was wounded.

“My media adviser called me from the Bar Mitzvah and showed me wounds, he was wounded,” Mr Ryvchin told the program.

“I got in the car and drove here to be with him and to be with the community. I have heard some horrific accounts ... if this is what we think it is, then this is our worst fears realised.

“This is the Jewish community at its best coming together to mark a happy occasion. If we were targeted deliberately in this way it’s something of a scale that none of us could have ever fathomed. It’s a horrific thing.”

Mr Ryvchin was due to speak at the Bondi Beach event but was not present this year as he was attending a Bar Mitzvah.
