A breakdown has closed lanes on Mitchell Freeway, causing headaches for commuters as peak hour begins on Thursday afternoon.

The breakdown is located on the Freeway northbound at the intersection with Graham Farmer Freeway in West Perth.

The left lane has been closed by Incident Response.

Traffic is slow leading up to the site and Main Roads has reminded drivers to exercise “extreme” caution if driving in the area.

A crash also caused delays on South Street eastbound.

The crash, which was reported by Main Roads at 3.23pm, was located at the intersection of Stock Road in O’Connor.

The right lane of South Street was closed and towing services are on site.

The crash has since been cleared and the lane reopened.
