Karratha Falcons soar to first place in West Pilbara Cricket Association 20-over competition

The Karratha Falcons have moved to first place in the West Pilbara Cricket Association 20-over competition after securing a three-wicket victory over the Baynton Lions.

The round three clash at Bulgarra Oval took place on Saturday, February 17 with the Falcons sending Lions in to bat.

A dominant spell of bowling by Mitchell Maturo (3-17) ripped out the Lions’ top order leaving the batting side stumbling at 3-27.

Wickets continued to fall with Bradley Pownall and Richard Anderson taking two scalps each.

In the end Lions limped to the finish line with a score of 7-79 with Dhyey Patel the top scorer with 14 runs.

In reply, the Falcons lost two quick wickets early with both openers out for ducks.

A quickfire 40 runs off 24 deliveries from Cody Bone powered the Falcons to a dominant position before Lions bowlers pounced, snaring 3-13 to have a sniff at victory.

Falcons steadied again scoring the final runs with ease to finish on 7-81 to secure the three-wicket victory.

Meanwhile, Wickham Wallabies cruised to a seven-wicket victory over Nickol Hawks at Millars Well Oval.

Wickham restricted Nickol to 8-109 from their 20 overs with Dan Crain snaring three wickets, while Kamran Ghaffar Khan top scored with 19 runs.

In reply, the Wallabies got off to a 70-run opening partnership before opener Matt Parker fell for 34.

The Wallabies continued to score runs with ease despite two more wickets falling, to chase down the total in the 18th over and finishing on 3-111.

The final game of the round saw Dampier Taverners and Karratha Kats go head-to-head in a nailbiter.

Batting first, Dampier plundered their way to 9-137 with openers Daniel Harding (37) and Cameron Gordon (30) setting the tone.

Kats however were not daunted by the total with Harvey Golding blasting nine fours and four sixes in his 85-run innings to set the game up for the chasing side.

In the end, Kats chased the total down with seven balls to spare, finishing on 4-139.
