Manjimup Rovers’ men’s and ladies sides experienced mixed results in their home clashes against Bunbury Dynamos on Sunday.

The ladies got off to a great start when Rita Solomon found Grace Gray with a perfect attacking pass to set up an easy score.

Dynamos were able to even the score with a long range goal from outside the box, but with 10 minutes to go in the first half midfielder Elyssa Brown bobbed up for a surprise goal to give the home team the lead at the half.

In the second half, Dynamos took advantage of the Rovers’ 10 players tiring in the warm conditions and were able to get a run of goals to win the game 5-2.

In the men’s game, Rovers had to deal with the Dynamos’ dour defence which kept the game even for a while, until a long range stunner from Finlay Phillips Johns got the Rovers on the scoreboard.

After more of the same, a 10-minute burst towards the end of the first half yielded four goals for the Rovers.

A nice through ball from Lance Vivian set up Tom Anstey against the keeper and scored on the follow-up rebound. A couple of crosses from Vivian set up Tack Burns and Anstey, and a Julian Ure cross from the left side set up Burns for a nice header.

After the half-time break, the Dynamos tried to get back into the game with more attack but Ure found the net, ghosting at the back post from a corner before Tack completed his hat-trick with a free kick from outside of the box.

Not far from full-time, Ashley Smith was able to assist Taj Smith to set up a shot from outside of the box to the bottom corner to complete a good win.

Next week will see both teams head on away trips, with the ladies side going to Dalyellup and the men’s side going to Harvey.
