Ascot crash: ‘stolen car’ smashes into Toyota Prado, injuring four people on Great Eastern Highway

A police chase through Perth’s east involving a stolen BMW came to a crashing halt when it collided with multiple vehicles — sending a car rolling and four people to hospital. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services were called to a serious crash on Great Eastern Highway, near Hargreaves Street, around 11.45am just minutes after police sighted the allegedly stolen car. “About 11.40am, the vehicle was spotted by police, and the driver drove erratically to avoid them,” a police spokesperson said. “The car clipped a Toyota Prado, which caused the Prado to flip.” A St John WA spokeswoman said a man and woman in their 60s and 70s were injured before being taken to hospital. It is believed they were inside the Toyota, which was located on its roof at the scene. The man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries, while the woman was transferred to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital with minor injuries. Police said a man and woman — both in their twenties — were apprehended at the scene. They have both been taken to Royal Perth Hospital with minor injuries. All four patients remain in a stable condition. It is further alleged the BMW — which was pinched from a Cloverdale home overnight — hit the rear of another car after clipping the Toyota. A DFES spokesman said at least four cars were involved in the collision. Great Eastern Highway westbound between Hardey Road and the Belgravia and Stoneham Streets intersection was closed before reopening just after 1pm.
