Man killed in workplace accident at Myer distribution facility in Ravenhall, Melbourne was ‘crushed’ to death
Further details have emerged about a workplace accident in which a man died at a Myer distribution facility in Melbourne’s west on Monday.
Emergency services were called to the site on Momentum Way at Ravenhall at 3pm when a worker was injured by a piece of machinery.
He died at the scene.
WorkSafe, which is investigating the incident, confirmed on Wednesday the worker was aged 27 and said the man was trying to fix a problem with an automated stock collection robot when he was “crushed”.
“It’s understood the 27-year-old man was responding to a jammed item on an automated stock collection robot when he was crushed between moving parts of the machine,” WorkSafe said.
The man is the 28th person in Victoria to die at work in 2024.
WorkSafe is continuing to investigate the incident that led to his death.
In a statement to 7NEWS.com.au on Monday, Myer’s executive chair Olivia Wirth said the company would work with emergency services and WorkSafe to investigate the incident.
“All our thoughts are with the contractor’s family, friends and colleagues as we provide our full support at this very difficult time,” she said.
“This is a very sad day for Myer and our team members, with access to support also being provided.
“There is no further information available at this time.”
