Coldplay concerts in Perth are expected to inject not just millions of dollars into the local economy - but provide extra work for thousands across the city.

“It’s fantastic that thousands of Western Australians are being employed directly as a result of these two concerts,” Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti said.

“Major exclusive events like our sold-out Coldplay concerts clearly show they’re not just huge in terms of bringing visitors and tourism spend in WA, but also great for the local workforce here.”

Nearly 134,000 people will flock to Optus Stadium across the two nights on November 18 and 19 with 30 per cent of these coming from out of the state, expected to inject millions of valuable dollars into WA businesses like hotels, bars, restaurants and tourism attractions

The blockbuster event is the first time Coldplay will play in Australia in seven years, and the first time in Perth for 14 years.

It’s anticipated that about 3500 locals will fill jobs across areas like food and beverage, security, cleaning, merchandise, food trucks and transport.

Sophie Budd, of Taste Budds Cooking Studio, is one of the local businesses directly employed as a result of the concerts to provide catering services, and has assembled a team of almost 60 workers.

“I’ve worked backstage catering for many tours, however this show will be the largest I have catered so far,” she said.

“From an economic perspective, these concerts mean I can employ more staff, build a strong team and secure some really good chefs who love working with me on these events and more broadly.”
