Sneak peek inside Mark McGowan’s custom-designed beachfront Rockingham home for sale

Former premier Mark McGowan and wife Sarah personally designed their double-storey, beachfront house in Rockingham which they have officially listed for sale, a real estate advert reveals. The property advert states the home was built by Webb and Brown Neaves, but the “current owners” were responsible for the design. It is understood the pair worked closely with an architect to create a one-off design that maximised the coastal views and created a spacious holiday feel. It is understood they have already moved into a new home in the Fremantle area to be closer to the schools and university their children attend. The advert reveals an upside-down house with an open-plan kitchen, dining and living room upstairs, which overlooks the ocean. The master bedroom, along with a walk-in robe, ensuite and powder room, are also upstairs, while the three other bedrooms are on the ground floor. It includes a two-car garage and a pool in the backyard. “The layout is perfect for family living, and if you feel inspired to play with some fresh interior updates, the opportunity exists to add even more value in what is an outstanding location,” said the advert. Ms Dobro said Rockingham was primed for substantial investment, including upgrades at local schools and a local hotel. The sale will net the former premier a tidy profit after he bought the property for $527,500 in 2002, later knocking the original home down to build the current one. He almost recouped the original purchase price in January 2022 when he sold off the 382sqm back garden, with a 159sqm side-access road, for $459,000. It adds to his growing income stream since leaving politics, which includes, a quarter-of-a-million-dollar-a-year pension, four business roles and occasional gigs as a high-end public speaker, at $15,000 a pop.
