VideoFerocious storms have battered Alice Springs with winds reaching almost 100 kilometres per hour, ripping off roofs and causing widespread damage.

Perth is set for a burst of hot weather before showers and a possible thunderstorm roll in, with temperatures tipped to plunge.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a hot, mostly sunny 32C day on Wednesday, with the chance of showers increasing late in the afternoon and evening.

With the UV index reaching 9 — classified as very high — sun protection is recommended up to about 4pm.

The heat will give way to a wet and cooler Thursday, with a very high chance of showers and the possibility of an early morning thunderstorm.

The temperature is forecast to reach just 22C after a minimum of 15C, with a 75 per cent chance of at least 2mm of rain.

The cooler conditions will stick around, with a maximum of 23C on Friday after an overnight low of 11C, although the chance of rain will ease.

Saturday is forecast to reach 24C on the back of a 12C minimum, with the chance of a shower in the afternoon and into the night.

Sunday will bring a maximum of 22C with showers possible during the morning before conditions ease.

The start of next week will remain mild, with 22C forecast on Monday and 23C on Tuesday.

A slight chance of a shower is forecast for Monday morning, while Tuesday could bring another round of showers.
