Synergy says there is “no evidence” to support claims of a data hack impacting almost a million customers, but is investigating after a cryptic social media post earlier in the week.

A Wednesday post on X by page VECERT Analyzer — a self described Miami cybersecurity company dedicated to critical analysis and adversary research — claimed 900,002 subscriber records had been accessed in the hack.

They claimed a hacker using the alias “hackboy” had accessed full names, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses, account IDs, payment balances and billing statements.

But a spokesperson for the State-owned energy provider said on Friday there was no evidence of data loss. Investigations are continuing.

“Synergy is investigating a claim by an external party regarding a potential cyber security incident,” they said.

“Based on information available at this time, there is no evidence of data loss or compromise.

“Synergy’s priority is the security of its customers’ data, and is taking all necessary precautionary measures as appropriate including working with the Office of the Digital Government and cyber security experts to thoroughly investigate the claims.”
