West Coast midfielder Ali Drennan will sit out the 2026 AFLW season after revealing she is expecting her first child.
Drennan will remain at home in Victoria with her family as her and husband Jay anticipate their new arrival in September, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
West Coast women’s footy boss Michelle Cowan said the Eagles would provide Drennan with all the support she needs off-field but would miss her on-field in the upcoming AFLW season.
“We are absolutely thrilled for Alison and her family as they embark on this exciting new chapter,” Cowan said.
“While we’ll miss having her out on the track with us, we couldn’t be happier to celebrate such wonderful news and will continue to support her every step of the way.”
The 35-year-old is one of the club’s most experienced players, with 70 games of AFLW under her belt, including 18 at West Coast.
She was recruited from Gold Coast after 40 games in exchange for a second-round pick at the end of the 2023 season, with previous stints at St Kilda and North Melbourne.
