Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir says he and the club will continue campaigning for more protection for rising star Jye Amiss to ensure he gets a “fair run”.

Longmuir vented his frustrations at the manhandling of the forward in the wake of the Dockers’ impressive 54-point victory over Richmond at the MCG, their biggest at the home of football since 2015, saying he wanted umpires to negate over-physical tactics.

He doubled down on 7NEWS on Tuesday night, claiming defenders were going “above and beyond” the rules to stop Amiss.

“We’ll continue to work with those relevant at the AFL to try and get some protection for Jye,” he said.

“I was a bit frustrated at what went on, especially late in the game.

“I feel like defenders are going above and beyond to block his run at times, using all they can physically to stop him accessing the ball, so we just want a fair run for Jye.”

Richmond defender Ben Miller was issued a fine after dropping a knee into Amiss’ face late in the final term on Sunday, sparking a heated melee, a situation Longmuir said highlighted his case.

“I thought it was a warranted fine for sure. It’s the second time the MRO have acted on incidents that have happened against Jye, so it pushes my case a little bit for protecting him more,” he said.

Longmuir also provided a positive update on star ruckman Sean Darcy after he was subbed out of the win with a soft tissue complaint, stating he was hopeful the big man would be ready to take on the ladder-leading Swans on Friday despite a five-day turnaround.

“We’re hoping he will be fine,” he said.

“He was pretty positive after the game about it. He’s still got some boxes to tick, but we’re hoping he gets up.”
