West Coast’s cheeky dig at Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir on their banner for the western derby has come back to haunt them, with the Dockers’ boss proudly proclaiming he was having fun winning games.
The Eagles’ banner read “Dockers Are Purple, Eagles Are Gold And Blue, We Have Fun In Our Lives, How About You?”
Those lines were a clear reference to Longmuir’s comments during Fremantle’s season launch where he joked about what he does for enjoyment.
“There’s no fun in my life,” he said.
Longmuir then went on to talk about what he does outside of football.
But after beating West Coast by 56 points and helping his team to sit second on the AFL ladder with a 5-1 record, Longmuir had one clear message for the Eagles.
“I’m having fun now because we won, I hope they’re having fun,” he said.

The Dockers dominated the second half after West Coast kicked the first goal of the third quarter to reduce the deficit to 16 points. The Eagles challenged Fremantle in the first half but missed their shots for goal.
West Coast had more inside-50s for the day and several key stats were even, but the Dockers defended strongly and too many powerful targets up forward.
“I thought it was slow start by us. They were good. I thought they were tough in the contest and got field position early. We were probably a little bit lucky with some of the missed shots early. But overall, I was proud of the way we got the game on our terms and fought through those challenges early,” Longmuir said.
“We won every quarter and won the game comprehensively. We came here and did what we had to do. But we’ve got a bit of work to do on our game.”
