Storm warning issued in State’s Great Southern as Fremantle fans travel across the Nullabor

Fremantle fans trekking it to Melbourne will run into an untimely storm as they race across the Nullabor.

A storm advice has been issued for parts West Australia’s Goldfields midlands and Great Southern by Emergency WA at around 3.17pm.

Road trippers will pass through the eye of the storm in Balladonia, with the severe thunderstorm forecast to continue through the afternoon into the early evening.

“Severe thunderstorms have developed in a warm and unstable airmass around a trough that extends from the central Goldfields down to south coast,” the Bureau of Meteorology said in a statement.

“Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.”

Locals brave enough to march forward are urged to act now and stay safe amid the unfortunate forecast.

Anyone that has packed heavy would be wise to secure or tie down loose items, and prepare an emergency kit in the event that the storm turns worse.
