GSCA 2023-24: Broomhill’s Kyle Potter claims player of the final after superb knock in side’s three-peat

Broomehill star Kyle Potter believes he was the beneficiary of an outstanding team performance after he was named player of the final in his side’s third consecutive Great Southern Cricket Association premiership on Saturday. After losing the toss and being sent in to field, Broomehill rolled Tambellup for just 120 inside 42 overs before reeling their total in with ease in the 23rd over on their home deck. Broomehill were 1-2 when Potter strolled to the crease after Connor Hawkins snared opener David Hinchcliffe for a duck, but the talented batter was left unfazed as he belted a swashbuckling 74 not out from just 66 balls in his side’s eight-wicket triumph. His superb innings included six fours and four sixes and led to him being named player of the final, but Potter humbly credited his side’s bowling attack for their dominant victory. “We got a few early wickets and we had them 3-15, so we set them up with the bowling and I was just lucky to get onto a few which was good,” he said. “It’s amazing to win in my first season with the club but really the last few games the boys have bowled really well and really tight and we haven’t leaked more than 150 runs each time. “So if we are going to bowl teams out for that much, it always makes it a lot easier to chase. “They needed wickets so they had to bowl full and straight, so it was nice being able to predict where they were going to bowl.” Potter was aided by opener Jack Batchelor, who scored 30 at the top of the order, before he was joined by Mac Crichton (15 not out) to deliver premiership glory.
