Perth coach Adam Griffiths has declared he wants to make the club great again and lead them to the finals next season after being handed a two-year contract extension.

Griffiths was thrust into the hot seat after David Zdrilic was axed just two games into the current A-League Men campaign.

Initially named interim coach, Griffiths was eventually handed the full-time reins until the end of the season following a hot run of results.

An eight-match winless run that stretched from February to April put his longer-term future in doubt, but Griffiths - who famously dubbed himself a "lion" during one of his early press conferences - was able to steady the ship again at the tail-end of the season.

Overall, Griffiths led the Glory to eight wins, seven draws and nine losses during his 24 games in charge, and owner Ross Pelligra saw enough to hand the former Socceroos defender a two-year extension.

"My objective is to make the club great again," Griffiths said.

"This club means everything to me and I am hungry to take it where it belongs.

"We have done a lot of the hard work - built the culture, set the standards and created a belief in this group that wasn't here before.

"Now we go and deliver. Finals football is the expectation and I back this club, this squad and this city to get there."

Perth's season tally of 31 points - seven short of a finals berth - was their best return since the 2020/21 campaign.

And it marked a significant step forward for a club that had claimed the wooden spoon in three of the previous four seasons.

The 46-year-old is looking forward to not only being able to compile a squad to his liking, but also having them for a full pre-season to get them ready to play his style from the outset.

"One of the things I want to make sure we do is we push the group to another level, both from a physical perspective but also a playing model perspective," Griffiths said.

"Bringing in key players and retaining players who fit that playing style helps."
