More than 100 boats took part in the annual In The Trees Regatta, hosted by Walpole Yacht Club on the Nornalup Inlet at the weekend.

The weather was excellent for sailing, with 13-16 knots easterlies for the duration of the five heats.

There was a total of 123 boats competing across 10 divisions, sailing on two courses to accommodate moths-foils, mixed division juniors, gaffers, mirrors, windrush 14s, trailer sailers, hobie 16 and lasers.

These all came from numerous regional and metropolitan sailing clubs.

The junior division was well supported with 21 acceptances.

Local sailors managed to win a few of the trophies; laser boat Bite Me was first in championship and third in consistency while mirror class had the trifecta in consistency with Magic Happen first, Nigel in second and Aussie Larrikin third.

The customary prize presentation ceremony filled the Walpole Recreation Centre on Sunday night, drawing 365 patrons.

The club was delighted that the vast majority of competitors, family and friends stayed back in town.

“Congratulations to all competitors and volunteers without whose valuable contributions the regatta could not have been held,” a club official said.

“Our major sponsor, the Shire of Manjimup, continue to support the regatta along with all our other valued sponsors, which has enabled the event to continue to grow.”
