Monique Krakouer and Shae Anne Fluuge awarded Impact Services dedication award at Deadly Careers and Job Forum

Two Indigenous students have been recognised for their self-determination and hard work with celebrity Ernie Dingo awarding them the inaugural Impact Services dedication award. Monique Krakouer and Shae Anne Fluuge were each presented with a certificate at the Deadly Careers and Job Forum on June 5 for progress towards their career path. Nominated by each school across the Great Southern, the students stood proudly in front of 31 organisations and nine schools at Retravision Stadium as Indigenous actor Ernie Dingo detailed their admirable motivation and achievements. Impact Services CEO Kerry Fry said this year’s event was “extra special”. “We want everybody to be in a culturally safe environment where they are proud to be who they are,” Ms Fry said. “We don’t close our door to anybody — it involves the Aboriginal culture which is important not only for the students but for the community. “It connects our students with training and potential jobs.” The expo is “a highlight on the calendar for students” Ms Fry said as it allows attendees to visualise a potential career path after school through interactive stalls and conversations with employers. The first Deadly Careers and Job Forum in 2021 was organised in collaboration with Southern Regional TAFE and Jobs and Skills Centre to connect Aboriginal people to Great Southern career opportunities.
