Residents spent Thursday on edge after a chemical spill caused hazmat alerts to be issued in Perth’s south.

Weatherburn Way in Kardinya had shut to motorists between Parkinson Lane and Jaggs Way after a chemical spill was reported on the road just after 9am.

Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene, and a Hazmat alert was issued to residents at 11.30am.

DFES declared the incident as “contained and under control” about 1.10pm, with firefighters having departed the scene.

Residents in the area have been advised they will no longer be impacted by fumes.

The roads where the spill took place have since been reopened to motorists, however EmergencyWA continues to advise drivers to avoid the area where possible and drive carefully.
