$10,000 Broomehill depot shed restoration project completed after 20 years of planning

Experiencing a revolving door of CEO’s, the Shire struggled to commit to funding the shearing shed renovation which has taken the six-month project 20 years to complete. The project included restumping the shed and replacing the roof, costing a total of $10,000 and the essential effort of hardworking volunteers. The shed was built in the early 1930s and acted as the Roads Board Depot Shed. The shed was heritage listed in 2017 and before the renovations was deteriorating because of the lack of upkeep and was eventually deemed unsafe by the Shire because of the condition of the roof. Anne Guazelli, president of the Broomehill Heritage Group for the past two years, said: “We’ve had to buy a bit of wire as well because now it’s fully enclosed so that you can see what’s inside from the outside, you don’t have to go in.” When asked about the future use of the shed, Ms Guazelli said, “At this stage, there’s not too much in there as most of it was transferred up to the shire depot shed. “We’re still playing with ideas of what we can and can’t put in there, but there’s still a couple of old wagons and that sort of thing. “It’s evolving but we’re still not 100 per cent on what it’s going to look like.”
