2 Wheels to Wagin returns after forced hiatus, raising funds for mental health assistance

It was a revhead’s delight in Wagin on Saturday as a mental health charity event returned after a forced hiatus. The 2 Wheels to Wagin bike ride got back on the road on Saturday. More than 180 motorcyclists cruised from the BP Service Station in Kewdale to the Wagin Showgrounds in a ride which stretched more than 250km. Another 140 people came together for a community event held on Saturday night as part of the bike ride. Event organising committee member Locko Ballantine said he was pleased with the attendance. “We always get good people who attend and I think that is what makes it such a great event,” he said. For Mr Ballantine, the event is all about raising awareness of suicide prevention. “It’s about making sure everyone knows that it is an issue and that they can get help,” he said. “It is also about raising funds for charities so they can continue with their work.” Although fundraising figures were yet to be finalised on Monday, the previous event in 2020 raised about $3500 for various charities. Proceeds from 2 Wheels to Wagin will support mental health initiatives by the Regional Men’s Health Initiative, Bindoon Mobile Recovery Campaign Inc, Holyoake and the Wagin Baptist Church. The 2 Wheels to Wagin ride first took place in March 2014.
