The Shire of Jerramungup will receive a further $700,000 to put towards the upgrade of the Bremer Bay Airstrip.

The grant is part of a $3 million investment into regional WA airports as part of the Regional Airports Development Scheme (RADS).

Seventeen airports will receive the boost with the grant received by the Shire of Jerramungup the largest.

“Bremer Bay Airport has received the largest grant for major upgrades to construct a cross runway and two taxiways, including markers, lighting, and installation of fencing,” Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said.

“This will improve air operations, particularly for firefighting purposes.”

Air resources have played an important part in combating the threat of bushfire in Bremer Bay many times over the past few years.

Other regions set to benefit from the recent round of funding include the Kimberley, Mid-West, South-West and Wheatbelt.

“The McGowan Government has a strong focus on regional aviation, with the RADS grants complementing the Government’s introduction of capped airfares last year, making airfares more affordable for regional residents,” Ms Saffioti said.

“These RADS grants will upgrade regional airport infrastructure that is critical to supporting regular public transport air services across WA, helping regional residents connect to Perth.”
