Katanning Wanderers claimed the Upper Great Southern Football League fourths flag in a four-point thriller at Matera Oval on Sunday.

After four gruelling quarters of football, the Tigers claimed the 4.4 (28) to 4.0 (24) victory over Wagin.

The result helped the Tigers go one better than last year, after falling short in the decider against Narrogin.

Neither side could gain any real control of the game and at any break the Tigers’ lead did not exceed two points.

At quarter-time both sides had one goal on the score sheet, but the Tigers led by a point.

Nothing could separate the two during the second term, with each side kicking one major and the visitor’s margin remaining at one point.

The second half started like the first and both teams managed to kick one goal each but the Tigers entered the final break with a two-point advantage.

With everything to play for in the final quarter, again very little could separate the two evenly matched sides.

Both sides kicked one major but the Tigers held on to claim premiership success.

Nate Kowald, Sebastian Green, Wade Green, Adam Edwards and Charlie Keast were all crucial for the Tigers.

Mitchell Hills, Hudson English, Douglas Banks, Ronald Williams and Taine Finlayson were key contributors for the Bulldogs.

The South Fremantle Football Club awards for the respective teams went to Keast and Hills while Banks was named fairest and best across the season in the fourths competition.
