Economic stability and business growth the focus of new Shire of Katanning president Kristy D’Aprile

The Shire of Katanning called a special council meeting on Wednesday evening to introduce the new councillors-elect and welcome Kristy D’Aprile as president. “Strong business values and a stable economy” will be the driving force behind Ms D’Aprile’s decision-making as she embarks on her new role. Coming from a small business background, Ms D’Aprile said her business experience would aid her in making well-informed decisions. “I will ensure we have the best engagement with our local businesses going forward and integrating new opportunities for our local community,” Ms D’Aprile said. “Business values and the stability of our economy will always be at the forefront when I make decisions. “We have the goldmine that is impending and my goal will be to make the most of that opportunity.” Ms D’Aprile, a dedicated council member since 2017, said the community’s best interests would always remain a cornerstone. “I’ve always been focused on the community of Katanning and that’s what has always driven me,” she said. “I want to be a strong leader for the community and I’m looking forward to sinking my teeth into this role.” Former president Liz Guidera will undertake the role of deputy president to assist Ms D’Aprile through her transition as key projects loom. “Liz has got such a solid understanding of local government and has a wealth of corporate knowledge,” Ms D’Aprile said. “We have huge projects coming up, like the Katanning Early Childhood Hub, and her background knowledge of the area will be critical to the success of those initiatives.” Incoming CEO Peter Klein will assume the role in December, and Ms D’Aprile said it was an exciting prospect for the Shire. “He will need a couple of weeks to find his feet, but he is a great leader and will bring key skills to the organisation,” she said. “It’s a big role to take on but he is absolutely the best candidate.”
