Narrogin Hawks recorded their first win of the Upper Great Southern Football League season after forward Mason Hill booted nine goals to prove the difference over Katanning

Bustling full-forward Mason Hill booted Narrogin Hawks to their first victory of the 2020 Upper Great Southern Football League season after his nine-goal haul proved the difference against Katanning Wanderers on Sunday. Hill was adjudged best afield in the Belt-Up Round after his match-winning nine goals, six of which came in his side’s dominant second half. The Hawks booted nine goals to three in the second half on their way to a comfortable 53-point win at Quartermaine Oval in round two of the UGSFL. After leading by 13 points at half-time the visitors broke the game open in the third term as they slammed on six goals to two and opened up a significant advantage heading into the last term. Scoring dried up somewhat in the fourth quarter as only five goals were kicked, three of them by the Hawks as they ran out 16.10 (106) to 8.5 (53) winners. Scores were level at quarter-time but Wanderers at home weren’t able to go on with it after that and remain winless in the shortened season. Hill’s influence in the win was well supported by Eric Woods (two goals), Tom Bomford, ruckman Perrin Quartermaine, and Jack Lambert. Laurence Collard was the main avenue to goal for the home side, booting three majors, while Callum Collard and Mitchell Banks both kicked multiple goals. Caleb Keley, Caleb Gill, Deklan Georgy and Ricky Marris were all named in the Wanderers’ best players in the defeat.
