Wickepin proved too strong for reigning premiers Pingelly in Saturday’s sudden-death first semi-final to keep their title hopes alive in the Narrogin and Districts Netball Association A1 competition.

The NDNA held their first round of finals netball for the 2021 season and Wickepin finished comfortable 18-goal winners and will now face Flames in the preliminary final this Saturday.

The first semifinal started evenly before Pingelly scored four goals in a row after a shaky start from Wickepin shooter Deb Patmore.

However, she found her eye quickly, and both Helen Wyatt and Patmore reduced the margin to a goal at the first change after a couple of turnovers.

Pingelly lost their strongest shooter, Sheree Blechynden, to injury before the first quarter was finished.

Across the next three quarters both sides played hard and applied pressure throughout the court.

By the end of the third term, Wickepin had a decent lead and ran away with the contest to finish 49-31 winners and progress to the preliminary final.

Wagin continued their strong season and defeated Flames 52-46, advancing straight through to the grand final.

Wickepin and Flames will face off at 2.30pm on Saturday.
